Effect of donor human milk on host-gut microbiota and metabolic interactions in preterm infants

چکیده

Background & aimsHuman milk is the gold standard for infant nutrition. Preterm infants whose mothers are unable to provide sufficient own mother's (OMM), receive pasteurized donor human (DHM). We studied metabolic signatures of OMM and DHM their effect on interplay developing microbiota infant's metabolism.MethodsMetabolic fingerprinting as well urine was performed using liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry stool analyzed by 16S rRNA sequencing.ResultsSignificant differences in galactose starch sucrose metabolism pathways when comparing DHM, alterations steroid hormone synthesis pyrimidine were observed depending type feeding. Differences gut-microbiota composition also identified.ConclusionThe differs from feeding has a significant impact phenotype preterm infants. Our data help understand origin changes generating new hypothesis: i) hormones present HM have influence activity biosynthesis pathway infants; ii) modulated gut-microbiota. Short- long-term implications need be assessed further studies. Human metabolism. Metabolic sequencing. Significant identified. The

Host-gut microbiota metabolic interactions.

The composition and activity of the gut microbiota codevelop with the host from birth and is subject to a complex interplay that depends on the host genome, nutrition, and life-style. The gut microbiota is involved in the regulation of multiple host metabolic pathways, giving rise to interactive host-microbiota metabolic, signaling, and immune-inflammatory axes that physiologically connect the ...

Benefits of donor human milk for preterm infants: current evidence.

It's undoubted that optimum nutrition for term infants is breastfeeding, exclusive for the first six months, then followed by a complementary diet and carried on, if possible, for the first year of life or even more. During the last decades several data confirmed the great advantages of fresh mother's milk use also for feeding very low and extremely low birthweight preterm infants. When mother'...

Elucidating the interactions between the human gut microbiota and its host through metabolic modeling

Increased understanding of the interactions between the gut microbiota, diet and environmental effects may allow us to design efficient treatment strategies for addressing global health problems. Existence of symbiotic microorganisms in the human gut provides different functions for the host such as conversion of nutrients, training of the immune system, and resistance to pathogens. The gut mic...

Effect of metformin on metabolic improvement and gut microbiota.

Metformin is commonly used as the first line of medication for the treatment of metabolic syndromes, such as obesity and type 2 diabetes (T2D). Recently, metformin-induced changes in the gut microbiota have been reported; however, the relationship between metformin treatment and the gut microbiota remains unclear. In this study, the composition of the gut microbiota was investigated using a mou...
